The Apple iPhone 2023 is the newest member of the Apple iPhone family. This version of the iPhone sports a 4.7 inch display, a USB-C port, and an In-Display Touch ID sensor. Plus, it also has the new MagSafe wireless charging feature.
4.7-inch display
A new report from display analyst Ross Young has revealed that the upcoming iPhone SE will have a 4.7-inch screen. The device will also have a notch. However, unlike the iPhone X, the upcoming SE will not have an OLED panel. It will instead use a IPS LCD display.
According to Young, Apple is preparing to release the next generation of the iPhone SE in March or April of 2023. Although there are rumors about a 5.7-inch or 6.1-inch model, it seems like the larger model will only be released in 2023.
The upcoming iPhone SE will feature a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display. This is the same display that the 2020 model has. Interestingly, the screen will have an Always-On feature, meaning that it will dim to conserve onscreen power when placed face down.
The iPhone SE will have a TrueDepth front camera for Face ID. It will also have the Touch ID sensor located on the Home button. These features are designed to be less intrusive than the Face ID feature. But, some users may still prefer the physical Home button.
The iPhone SE will have IP67 water and dust resistance. It will also be capable of 5G networking. Apparently, this is the first time that Apple will have support for 5G in a smartphone.
According to another rumor, the upcoming SE will have a dual rear camera. It will also have an upgraded A15 Bionic chip.
There have also been rumors about a 5G enabled iPhone SE. While the next SE model will have a 4.7-inch display, the alleged SE+ 5G will have a 6.7-inch screen with a 120Hz screen.
While a notch has been present on the iPhone X, the iPhone Plus and the iPhone 14 Pro also have a notch. Both the iPhone X and the iPhone Plus use the same dual 12MP cameras, and the iPhone 14 Pro has enhanced the A15 Bionic chip.
In-display Touch ID sensor
There’s no question that Touch ID was a huge deal when it first debuted in the iPhone 5S. It was more powerful and more sophisticated than most fingerprint sensors on the market.
However, the arrival of all-screen phones left fingerprint verification in limbo. A number of competitors have adopted in-display fingerprint sensors, and Apple has a patent for one.
While Apple has not yet taken the plunge on implementing an in-display Touch ID, reports have suggested that Apple might make a return to the technology for future iPhone models. Some of these reports were based on Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman’s recent testing of such a feature.
Kuo’s prediction suggests that this combination might not happen for several years. He also noted that a foldable phone might not be released until 2024.
Although he doesn’t think that Touch ID will ever make a comeback, Kuo does think that Apple will eventually use an under-screen Face ID sensor for its phones. These devices could also benefit from the Secure Enclave feature that allows up to five fingerprint maps to be stored.
The in-display Touch ID sensor has been rumored for some time. Some reports have suggested that this type of scanner will debut on the iPhone 13 later this year. Others have said that it will appear on the upcoming iPhone SE.
In addition to the fingerprint sensor, the new iPhone will also feature a more streamlined notch. This means that more space will be available for other fingerprint biometric options.
Another feature that will be present in the iPhone is the Dynamic Island feature. This feature makes cutouts appear as one slot.
Apple will also have to upgrade its camera system to be able to use the new features. The current iPhone has an improved camera, but it still has a notch on top of the display.
USB-C port
If you are looking to upgrade your iPhone in the near future, you might be wondering what the new USB-C port for iPhone might look like. After all, Apple has been making bold claims about their environmental responsibility, and has been making moves to transition their products to be environmentally friendly.
One of these moves has been to move away from Lightning, which has been used on Apple’s iPhones for over a decade. This could lead to a major redesign of the smartphone, with a USB-C port.
The move to switch to a USB-C port could help increase the speed and transfer capacity of your iPhone. It will also make connecting to your computer easier. But not all features might be supported on the new port.
The EU has passed legislation that will require all new smartphones and other devices with physical ports to use USB-C. Although the law will not go into effect until fall of 2024, it is clear that Apple is bound to make the change.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is already testing a USB-C port for its future iPhones. While it is unclear whether the new port will be available for the whole world, the company’s executives have publicly confirmed that it is coming.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has long said that Apple’s next iPhones will come with a USB-C port. However, he hasn’t said when those devices will be released.
On the other hand, Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, recently confirmed that the company will comply with the EU’s law and switch to USB-C. He also mentioned that billions of cables are already in the hands of Apple users.
MagSafe wireless charging
Apple’s latest iPhones, the iPhone 12 and 13 series, are compatible with MagSafe wireless charging. The charger latches onto the iPhone, and uses a series of magnets to align the phone’s charging coils.
In addition to iPhones, MagSafe can also be used with other Qi-compatible devices. For example, it can charge AirPods at 5W. Some third-party wireless accessories, such as the Belkin two-in-one wireless charger, have been certified by Apple to use MagSafe technology.
You can use a USB-C to Lightning cable to connect your iPhone to the wireless charging puck. However, the puck itself isn’t completely “wireless.” It still requires a power adapter.
MagSafe wireless charging for Apple iPhones is a lot faster than standard Qi wireless charging. With MagSafe, the iPhone can be charged at 15W, while the 7.5W limit for standard Qi chargers applies to both phones.
There are many official and third-party accessories that support MagSafe wireless charging. They include cases, chargers, and battery packs.
If you’re looking to purchase a MagSafe-compatible battery pack, be sure to look for one that includes a built-in magnetometer. This helps to ensure that the batteries are paired properly.
In addition to MagSafe, Apple is a member of the Wireless Power Consortium, a group of manufacturers working on developing a wireless charging standard. This standard is expected to launch in late 2023. While it won’t be compatible with all Android devices, it will be able to deliver a more reliable charging experience than standard Qi.
Aside from the aforementioned MagSafe charger, you can also consider buying a three-in-one charging station that charges your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. The Anker PowerWave is the only MagSafe-certified three-in-one Apple charger.
Periscope lens technology
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with a track record for accurate predictions, has said that Apple will bring periscope lens technology to the iPhone 15 series in 2023. This will include a high-end model called the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The periscope lens, which is a form of optical zoom, will allow users to zoom in with more depth and clarity. It works by reflecting light from an angled mirror toward a camera image sensor. In the case of an iPhone, this could help photographers shoot in low light conditions and for video makers.
According to Kuo, Apple will ramp up its supply chain for this technology. He says that the company is working with five suppliers to produce a periscope lens.
Jahwa Electronics and LG Innotek are two of the companies working on the components. The latter is expected to manufacture 70%-30% of the actuators that will be used for the periscope zoom.
Another component supplier, Genius, will be involved in the production of a periscope lens. The firm is a longtime supplier of camera modules. But it also has experience with ball guide-type actuators. These types of actuators have been found to be superior for folded optics. They also use less power and are quicker at focusing.
Several Android smartphone vendors have incorporated periscope technology into their cameras. Samsung, for example, has been using it for years.
Apple is also expected to upgrade its front-facing camera to include a large sensor and improved autofocus for better low-light performance. This technology was previously available on last year’s iPhone 14 models, and it is predicted to arrive on all iPhone 15 models in 2023.
If you are wondering how a periscope lens would fit into your iPhone, you can get a basic kit for just $15. This includes a telephoto lens, a folding lens and a periscope module.
