There are many different brands of flat screen TVs that you can choose from. Some of the more popular names include Sony, Hisense, LG and others. Each of these brands has a wide selection of models, so it can be a difficult decision to choose one. However, there are some common qualities that will make your choice easy.
LG C1 OLED
If you are shopping for a new OLED flat screen TV, there is one model that stands above the rest in both quality and performance. LG has been selling the C1 OLED flat screen TV for years, and it remains a great buy. The latest models offer even more features, and the C2 is the best of the new generation. It offers more features and brighter, sharper, and more detailed images than previous LG OLEDs. However, the LG C2 does not match the brightness of the Samsung QD-OLED.
Aside from LG’s C1 series, there is also the company’s flagship product, the LG A90J. This OLED TV offers Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, and other advanced audio technologies. In addition to Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision IQ, it supports HLG high dynamic range formats. Despite the hefty price tag, the sound is impressive, and the 30W Acoustic Surface Audio+ sound system is more powerful than its rivals.
While the LG G2 has a lot of things going for it, its 4K OLED screen is the most notable. Not only does it offer a finely tuned version of the OLED Evo screen, but it also achieves the most perfect black levels, and is able to produce perfectly deep colors. You can play SDR content or HDR content on this screen, and the peak brightness level is on the top tier of all LG OLED screens.
LG’s C1 OLED TV was the first to feature Cinematic Movement motion processing, a new technology that reduces banding and gives the user accurate color settings. Likewise, it features an improved menu system and de-contouring technology. With an a9 Gen4 AI Processor 4K, it uses deep-learning algorithms and an expansive database of visual data points to optimize the picture and eliminate noise.
LG’s B series is a good value, and offers the same features as the C-series, but with a slightly older processor. Still, the B series offers better audio and video, and you can choose between two different HDMI 2.0 ports. As well, it has a full suite of inputs and is certified for eARC, a technology that provides an immersive cinematic experience.
The LG A2 is a better value than the C-series and has a few features that are worth mentioning. One of these features is Dolby Vision IQ, which allows it to display HDR10 and HDR10 Pro content. In addition, it offers a 60Hz refresh rate and a full range of sound modes. Another notable feature is the a7 Gen 5 AI Processor, which provides 5.1.2-channel sound upmixing and dynamic tone mapping.
While the LG C2 is an excellent TV, the LG G1 is the most impressive of the bunch. It is the most affordable, and it offers a number of features that are not available on other LG OLEDs. Among them is a custom mount, which lets you hang it right on the wall. Additionally, it comes with a few other cool features, including an improved Quick Card system, and the ability to connect wireless Bluetooth speakers for a more immersive experience.
Hisense U8H
If you’re looking for a great TV, you might consider the Hisense U8H. It’s a mid-range 4k TV that was released in 2022. With a flat design, this television offers a lot of features for its price.
The U8H’s main advantage is its wide color gamut and excellent contrast. This TV also has a Mini-LED backlight. These LEDs are very bright and help you achieve beautiful colors. You’ll find this TV has excellent black levels, too. And, unlike other models, it has a true 120Hz refresh rate.
While the Hisense U8H has a few issues, it’s still a great buy for the money. For one thing, the display quality is on par with TVs costing twice as much. On top of that, the television has a great built-in sound system.
The U8H’s design isn’t as fancy as other Samsung TVs, but that doesn’t mean it lacks style. The slick design is backed up by a sleek silver strip along the bottom that contains the TV’s logo. In addition, the screen has two legs, a standard VESA 400 x 400mm bracket, and barely visible bezels on the top and sides.
The Hisense U8H comes with a few nice features, including Full Array Local Dimming, which allows you to select a specific dimming level for dark scenes. You’ll also notice the Soap Opera Effect, which helps smooth out motion.
The Hisense U8H’s remote is functional and works well. It includes an HDMI port, a USB port, and a WiFi connector. But, it’s not as innovative as the new Samsung remotes. However, the remote does have a charging feature, which is very helpful if you want to use the TV in sunlight.
If you like to watch movies, you’ll love the quality of the TV’s picture. Even when viewing in a dark room, the TV delivers accurate pictures. It’s also a good gaming TV, thanks to low input lag. Although the TV’s motion resolution isn’t stellar, the picture is smooth and vibrant.
The Hisense U8H comes in three different sizes, 55″, 65″, and 75″. It also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. Plus, it has a wide range of connectivity options, including HDMI, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
For gamers, the U8H will be a very attractive purchase. But, even if you’re not a gamer, you might enjoy the TV’s wide color gamut and high contrast ratio. Fortunately, it’s also very powerful.
Unfortunately, the Hisense U8H’s motion resolution isn’t quite as good as other brands. When watching content with a lot of motion, it will be difficult to see details, especially when the picture is delivered at 60Hz. Additionally, the TV’s upscaling doesn’t work as well as some more expensive brands. That means you may lose some of the detail in your games.
Sony A90J
The Sony A90J is the brightest OLED TV ever made. The screen produces incredible blacks, contrast, and color. It also offers fast response and great reflection handling.
If you want to get a new TV this year, consider a Sony. This TV uses the latest technology, including a custom-engineered panel. In addition, it has a Google TV smart interface. Moreover, the audio is decent.
One of the best things about the Sony A90J is its impressive HDR capabilities. For starters, it supports a variety of brightness levels, which is a big bonus for HDR content. That means the colors will be more realistic, and the highlights will be brighter. Similarly, it’s also got a better tone mapping system for HDR.
The TV is also capable of streaming Netflix content in 4K. What’s more, the Bravia XR cognitive processor makes this happen. Essentially, the AI algorithm works to upconvert the audio to three-dimensional surround sound, and it also works to enhance specific areas of the picture. Additionally, it also works with Dolby Vision.
Another notable feature is the acoustic surface audio. By using this technology, the screen vibrates to mimic the reverberation of sound from other rooms. When the screen is lit up, the sound reflects off the screen, providing a realistic experience.
While the Sony A90J OLED is certainly a technological marvel, it’s not the cheapest television out there. You can find cheaper LG and Sony sets that are similar in most aspects. However, these TVs are generally harder to justify than their cheaper rivals. Plus, they don’t have FreeSync support.
Regardless, the Sony A90J OLED is an excellent TV that you’ll be proud to show off in your home. It has a bright display, a quick response time, and great viewing angles. Depending on the model, you can choose from 42″, 48″, and 60-inch screens.
The Sony A90J also has a built-in Google TV smart interface. Its smart interface allows you to connect to Alexa and other smart-home assistants. There is also an option to switch off the ambient light sensor, which brightens the picture. And, if you are going to be watching Netflix content, you can use the Netflix Calibrated Mode, which is compatible with Apple HomeKit.
Lastly, you should know that the TV is powered by a pair of full range X-balanced speakers. They are integrated in the front and can simulate the sound of a speaker. To turn these off, you can do so with the remote control.
As you can see, the Sony A90J OLED delivers an impressive picture and an amazing HDR experience. Combined with a reasonable price, this is a solid buy. Just be sure to turn off the ambient light sensor for best results.
Whether you’re looking for a new TV or a gift for a friend, the Sony A90J is a fine choice.
