The best ultralight laptop is one that’s incredibly portable, yet still performs well. This is a hard feat to accomplish, but one that the top laptop manufacturers have mastered. These ultralight laptops aren’t just lightweight; they’re also loaded with high-end technology, and can do a lot of things that you just don’t expect from a laptop.
Lenovo IdeaPad 3i
If you’re looking for an ultralight laptop for the occasional home or student use, then the Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is an excellent choice. It’s not the most powerful, but it offers enough performance for light computing tasks, and it’s a great price.
This laptop is very thin, at less than 20mm, and it’s light at 3.5 pounds. The screen is Full HD, and it has an 80% Active Area Ratio.
However, the panel has a narrow color gamut, and it’s not ideal for work that requires perfect image accuracy. Also, the speakers are tinny, and the screen has a low contrast.
The webcam doesn’t offer biometric authentication, and there’s no IR camera for Windows Hello. However, this is a small drawback for a budget laptop.
Lenovo’s latest consumer devices are designed to fit a mobile lifestyle, and they give users speed and versatility. They include a new 9-inch tablet and five new IdeaPad laptops.
There’s also a new premium model, the MacBook Air M2. While it doesn’t have a touch display, it does have a 1080p webcam.
Those looking for a high-end laptop may want to check out the MacBook Air M2 that goes on sale in July. That model has a brighter screen and a new M2 chip.
Alternatively, if you’re looking for an ultralight laptop, you should definitely check out the Lenovo IdeaPad 3. With a touchscreen and a better processor, this laptop is a great value. Despite the fact that it’s a budget option, it’s built with quality and style.
In addition to the touchscreen, this laptop has a fingerprint reader built into the power button. It also comes with Windows 10 Home in S mode, which means you can only use Edge for browsing the Web.
Asus Zenbook 13 OLED
The ZenBook 13 OLED is an ultralight laptop that’s not only powerful but also extremely compact and lightweight. It’s built with a magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis, and it’s tested to MIL-STD 810H.
It’s also got a beautiful 13.3-inch OLED display, which is a rare feature in a laptop this price. You can get it in a glossy finish, and it’s guaranteed to deliver deep blacks. In addition, it has Dolby Vision certified, which means it produces vivid colors that stand out.
Asus ZenBook S 13 OLED is a great little laptop for productivity and entertainment. There’s a big touchpad that doubles as a second screen, and it’s also got a nice keyboard.
As a travel companion, the ZenBook S 13 is one of the best values available in mid-2022. While the battery life isn’t as long as some other OLED laptops, it’s still good enough for most users.
It has a full set of I/O ports, and it supports 4K UHD external displays. It also has Thunderbolt(tm) 4, which allows it to transfer data at 40Gbps. All of this is backed by a 16-hour battery, and you can recharge it with a USB-C port.
With a price tag of $1,300, the ZenBook 13 OLED isn’t cheap, but it’s a good value. That’s because it comes with great performance, a beautiful display, and a great keyboard. And the design is clean and sleek.
This ultralight laptop is available in four new colors. It’s also available with an innovative ASUS NumberPad 2.0. Featuring an LED-illuminated numeric keypad built into the touchpad, it can be used for cursor control.
Whether you’re a creative professional or an enthusiast, you’ll love the OLED display on the ZenBook S 13. Aside from its beautiful visuals, the display is also Dolby Vision certified, so you can watch your favorite films in rich, vibrant colors.
HP Envy 14
If you want a laptop with a large screen but aren’t willing to pay top dollar, the HP Envy 14 is a good choice. It has a nice screen and a powerful processor, and it’s built with a strong emphasis on media consumption. The HP Envy 14 also has a fingerprint reader and a large, comfortable trackpad.
This model is a bit more expensive than the HP Envy 13, but it’s still not that much more expensive than other 14-inch laptops. The Envy 14 is also a little thicker and has a slightly wider chin.
However, this is a laptop made for work. A big plus for the Envy 14 is its long battery life. In fact, it lasted 11 hours and 24 minutes in our PCMark 10 Modern Office rundown test.
The Envy 14’s display is a touch-screen with a 1920×1200 resolution. That’s great for creative professionals who want a display with good contrast and accurate colors.
The Envy 14 also features a dedicated webcam shutter button. You can set privacy controls for the webcam, but the camera doesn’t have facial recognition.
The HP Envy 14 also has an HDMI 2.0 port, two Type-A USB ports, and a USB4 Type-C port. While these don’t offer full Thunderbolt 4 support, the ENVY 14’s USB4 port is lightning-fast.
HP’s Display Control app has pre-programmed color profiles, but you can easily customize your own if you need. There are also default presets for basic tasks, such as encoding video.
Another feature is the HP QuickDrop. Similar to Apple’s AirDrop, it allows you to send files from your computer to other devices.
Overall, the HP Envy 14 is remarkably well-built. It has a stylish design and plenty of features.
LG Gram 17
LG Gram is a 17-inch Ultrabook that uses a magnesium alloy chassis for its ultralightweight design. It features a full-size keyboard, a palm rest, and a huge touchpad.
LG has also included an impressive display. This model offers a high-resolution screen that is great for photo and video editing.
LG has also added a bit of bling in the form of a 1TB SSD, which is a lot better than the 250GB or 320GB you get with most Ultrabooks. In addition to the SSD, this machine also includes a microSD card reader, an HDMI port, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port.
Overall, the LG Gram is a nice laptop, but it does have some weaknesses. The screen is not the sharpest, and it can’t run the most demanding 3D games. Even so, this machine is still an impressive feat of engineering.
While the LG Gram is an impressive piece of hardware, it’s not the best choice if you’re in the market for a gaming laptop. For that, the Samsung Galaxy Book 360 offers a superior experience for hundreds less.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for the best all-around Ultrabook, the LG Gram is a solid option. It’s lightweight and durable, while also being capable of handling an eight-hour workday.
The LG Gram isn’t going to win you any awards for battery life, but it does last for a good amount of time. You can expect to have between 8% and 12% of the battery remaining after four hours of use. However, you should be able to last a good 12 hours or so with the system set to the “Better Battery” mode.
Acer Swift 3
If you’re looking for an ultralight laptop for the traveling enthusiast, the Acer Swift 3 is worth a look. It’s an affordable device that features a 14-inch display and a solid selection of ports.
The Acer Swift 3 is a thin Windows laptop with a sturdy aluminum chassis and a matte screen. You can choose from three color schemes, including silver, white, and black.
The 14-inch display has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, which is adequate for viewing web pages and documents. Although the resolution is lower than that of a desktop monitor, the laptop’s 3:2 aspect ratio gives you more vertical space, which is ideal for a portable PC.
The Acer Swift 3 has a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint reader. There’s also a headphone jack and a USB-C port.
The Acer Swift 3 has dependable performance and long battery life. However, the webcam is lacking in quality. This is a problem for anyone who is looking for a high-definition video experience.
In addition to the 3.5mm audio jack, the Acer Swift 3 has a full-size HDMI 2.0 port. Additionally, it has a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, which supports Thunderbolt 4 up to 40Gbps.
Battery life isn’t the strongest feature of the Swift 3, but it’s good enough for most users. When I was testing this model, I got about eight hours of use out of it.
The only drawback to the Acer Swift 3 is the keyboard, which isn’t the most comfortable to type on. It has a large row of keys toward the right, which can be difficult to use. And it also features an extra row of keys for PgUp and End, which can lead to missed strokes.
