Regardless of what you shoot, a camera’s quality can make or break the image you’re going to capture. The new cameras slated for launch this year are sure to have an impact on the industry. Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, and Insta360 are all set to compete with one another in the mirrorless system category. The new cameras will also feature the latest in image stabilization and sensor technology. Let’s take a closer look at each one.
Sony APS-C system
What is Sony’s APS-C system camera for 2022? The company should stop treating the APS-C format like a redheaded stepchild and start building on the new lineup of APS-C lenses that were announced last June. The a6400, a6500, and a6500x have all had strong reviews, but consumers are now turning to the more premium Fujifilm offerings. The a6500x’s lack of APS-C-specific lenses is a big problem.
As for the APS-C format, Sony’s lineup of cameras remains fairly expensive. The Sony a7C retails for $1800. While there are several low-cost APS-C models in the Sony lineup, hobbyists who are looking to upgrade will have to purchase the a7 IV or a7C. The a6X’s lack of the latest autofocusing algorithms makes it difficult for hobbyists to move to a higher-end model.
If Sony wants to keep the APS-C market alive, the new APS-C camera should have a fully articulating screen, and better video codecs. Sony should not hold back on autofocus, but should offer AI and deep-learning solutions. Dual UHS-II card slots and improved IBIS should be a given. Eventually, the company should ditch the rangefinder-style design and make an a7C II.
According to the latest Sony Alpha Rumors, three mirrorless cameras will be released in 2022: the a7R V, the a9III, and a new, unknown model. The a7R IV is the best all-around body, with fast autofocus and tilting LCD screen. Sony is also expected to release a full-frame sensor on the a7R V, but the rumors of an APS-C camera for 2022 are very vague at this time.
Canon EOS R1
Unless the current processor shortage is addressed soon, we’re not going to see the new EOS R1 camera from Canon until early 2022. If the shortage isn’t solved, the EOS R1 could be announced later this year or early next year, though that depends on the processor shortage. After all, Canon just announced the R7 and R10 mirrorless cameras last week, but isn’t making any official announcements yet.
The price tag is going to be high, but this is to be expected from such an amazing camera. The Canon EOS R1 will probably cost $6000 to $7000 and be the best camera on the market. This price tag is probably not a deterrent for a lot of consumers, though. It’s definitely the best, but don’t expect to find it in your pocket anytime soon. However, you may be able to get a discount if you buy it now.
The Canon EOS R1 is rumored to include a global shutter. It will also have a stacked sensor to make readout faster. Canon has a history of developing low-light astral cameras, and it could potentially cannibalize their cinema camera lineup. If the camera is as good as rumored, the R1 could be released in 2022. It will be available in both body types and in several other colors.
Nikon Z 9
In its upcoming update, the Nikon Z9 will include N-Raw format recording, a large reduction in file size compared to ProRes RAW HQ. The camera will also add a waveform monitor, red REC frame indicator, and custom i-menu options. In addition, time-lapse movies can now be recorded in-camera. And it’s all coming with a relatively modest price tag.
If you’ve been looking for a high-end camera for many years, you’ve come to the right place. The new Nikon Z9 is a premium model that represents Nikon’s comeback story. With the Z9, the brand has made huge advancements in image quality and technology that level the playing field with Sony and Canon. It also offers a blackout-free Real-Live viewfinder and the latest in AF technology.
Another notable upgrade to the camera is the new battery. The Nikon Z9 uses the EN-EL18d battery, the latest version of Nikon’s famous large battery. The camera works with all EN-EL18 batteries, except for the EL18b, which cannot be charged in-camera. If you use the EN-EL18d battery, you’ll get a greater number of shots. Just make sure that your camera charger supports the EN-EL18d battery.
Other improvements include a new 3D tracking system. The 3D tracking system works just like the one found in Nikon DSLRs. It uses a range of sensors to determine where to focus. In the video mode, you can select your subject using the touchscreen, an AF box, or the EVF. This makes it easier to capture fast-moving subjects. This technology is more reliable and can handle more subjects. If you want to get a great video, the Nikon Z9 will deliver.
Olympus Pen E-P7
The Olympus Pen E-P7 is a new camera that is similar to the company’s flagship Pen F camera. It’s still an excellent choice for shooting hand-held videos and low-light stills, and it can capture 4K video. You can also purchase an optional leather body jacket for the E-P7, which opens and articulates the rear screen. The camera is currently only available in Japan, where it is one of the most popular camera brands.
The camera features a 20 Megapixel Live MOS sensor and a high-speed TruePic VIII image processor. It also comes with an f/2.0 lens with a 0.7-micron aperture. It also features an in-body 5-axis image stabilisation system and 4.5-steps of exposure compensation. The camera is compatible with the full line of Micro Four Thirds lenses, including the M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 lens.
While the Olympus Pen E-P7 will continue to be an excellent camera, the new Olympus Pen E-P10 has some significant limitations compared to its mirrorless competitors. The camera lacks a viewfinder, but the camera has a long battery life and a user-friendly flip-screen interface. Its photo quality is good and it is suitable for casual videography, but it isn’t designed for advanced photographers. It’s a good choice for casual videography and beginner users who don’t want to be restricted by a complicated interface. The PEN E-PL10 comes with a 14-42mm power zoom lens as part of the package.
The Olympus Pen E-P7’s video capture is not perfect, but it’s still decent enough. The camera has a sensor shift and electronic stabilization system. In-body stabilisation is not as effective as sensor-only stabilization, but it does keep files in a manageable size. The Olympus Pen E-P7 new camera for 2022
Sony ZV-1
The Sony ZV-1 is a compact camera that records UHD 4K video at 30 or 24 frames per second. The camera’s full-pixel readout eliminates binning and collects 1.7x more information than is required for 4K output. The camera’s Active SteadyShot mode prioritizes smooth recording to minimize camera shake. A hybrid phase-detection AF system provides fast tracking. High-bit-rate recording is a feature that makes this camera great for vlogging.
The ZV-1 also has a fantastic autofocus system. It has a variety of different AF areas, including one dedicated for face tracking. The camera can also switch seamlessly between face tracking and object tracking modes, prioritizing human and animal subjects. The only drawback of the camera is its AF points don’t cover the entire frame and don’t allow for tracking to the edge of the frame.
The ZV-1 also has a “Product showcase” button that was specifically designed for YouTube reviewers. This button will toggle off features such as Face and Eye Priority AF to focus on objects in front of the camera. Using this button makes video recording a breeze, even with the blurring of the background. If you’re not a YouTuber, the ZV-1 can also be used to create your own videos, as it has a number of presets.
Panasonic PEN-F with weather-sealing
The Panasonic PEN-F is a compact mirrorless camera with weather-sealing and a magnesium alloy body. Its dials and buttons are inspired by the Pen F film camera. Its lack of visible screws means that most tripod heads will get in the way of the lens. The PEN-F also lacks a mic jack. Its AF tracking of fast-moving subjects is mediocre.
The PEN-F boasts a 20 megapixel CMOS sensor with a native ISO range of 200 – 25600. Its sensitivity range can be extended electronically to as low as 80. The camera also supports RAW format, enabling more post-processing. Its crop factor is 2.1, making it useful for macro photographers. It is a good option for those who live in areas with heavy rainfall.
In terms of video quality, the PEN-F offers very good detail and a nice dynamic range. Its lack of an optical low-pass filter on the sensor means that it offers fine detail, but it also increases the possibility of moire and aliasing. If you’re looking for a high-end camera that will last, the Panasonic PEN-F with weather-sealing is a great choice.
Despite its weather-sealing and style, the Pen-F still falls in the middle of the E-M10 and E-M5 line. Despite this, the Pen-F has a number of benefits over its competitors, and the weather-sealing and B&W capabilities will ensure that it will be a popular choice amongst B&W photographers.
