The latest cameras are starting to hit the market and the competition is fierce. With the release of the Sony a7r IV, Fujifilm X-H2, Panasonic GH6, and Canon EOS R7, it is important to decide which one to get. In this article, we’ll go over some of the top choices. But which one is right for you? Let’s take a closer look at some of the most popular models and find out what’s new in them.
Sony a7r IV
If you are planning to upgrade your DSLR this year, the Sony a7R IV is definitely worth considering. Its high-resolution sensor and dynamic range allow it to produce a wide variety of shots, including high-resolution video. The camera has an adjustable shutter speed, a fully articulated touchscreen, and a faster maximum burst rate than its predecessors. Additionally, both cameras can shoot at 4k/60 fps, though the latter incurs a bigger crop.
The A7R IV is the successor to the A7 III, a highly-revered mirrorless camera. It boasts a 33-megapixel sensor and a powerful Bionz XR processor. It supports 10-bit footage and has an excellent autofocus system. The camera also features a vari-angle touchscreen and a huge 828-shot buffer for CFexpress cards.
The camera is incredibly responsive, with a fast start-up time. It also features continuous AF and Eye AF, which work with three subjects in video mode. The R model does not have animal or bird detection, and does not offer a similar function. The A7R IV’s autofocus sensitivity and speed are more precise. The camera also comes with dual UHS-II cards, a feature coveted by professional photographers.
Canon EOS R7
The latest news regarding the EOS R-series from Canon is the announcement of the R7 and the new R10 cameras. Both models are designed for sports and wildlife photographers, and feature outstanding tracking autofocus and reach. For more information, check out the official press release. And don’t forget to check out the new EOS R7 review to learn more about its features and capabilities. We hope you enjoy!
The RP originally cost $1,299, and has since dropped to about half that price. With a full-frame lens, you’ll be paying close to $500. The previous series of Canon cameras weren’t exactly user-friendly and were more expensive than today’s offerings. Fortunately, the R10 and R7 are now entry-level options for those with a tighter budget. While you might be wondering if there’s a new camera coming this year, you shouldn’t despair. Canon still has plenty of R-series gear for those who want to upgrade their camera’s lens.
The body-only Canon EOS R7 will sell for $979. An additional $1,499 will buy you a lens, RF-S18-45mm EF-S, which offers the highest-resolution images of any crop-sensor camera. The R7 is due out in late 2022. It’s also available for preorder now. And remember, prices may increase in the future, but there’s no reason to worry about buying one right now.
Fujifilm X-H2
If you’re considering purchasing a new camera in the next couple of years, you may want to consider the Fujifilm X-H2 camera. This compact camera is one of the best in its class, and it offers a number of benefits over other compact cameras. Its dual-slot design makes it easy to carry around and can be very compact, too. The camera’s autofocus system is also the best in the business, allowing you to take sharp images of any subject, even in low-light conditions. In addition to a dual-lens design, the X-H2 camera also features a tilt-screen LCD, which makes it possible to compose the perfect shot.
The Fujifilm X-H2 camera will have a three-way tilting display. It will feature a new, upgraded 26MP X-trans sensor. It is also expected to be more affordable than its predecessor, with a lower price point. It will be released at the company’s X-Summit event in September. If Fujifilm manages to launch this camera before 2022, it will be a fantastic camera for any photographer.
Panasonic GH6
The GH6 uses a DMW-BLK22 battery, which has a 16Wh capacity and can capture 360 shots using SD or CFexpress cards. While these numbers are not exactly correct, they are broadly comparable to the GH5 and GH4 battery life estimates. A USB type-C connection is also available for powering and charging the camera. It is compatible with a standard 9V USB-C charger.
Other features of the camera are the availability of the latest Apple ProRes codec family, which enables you to record video in near-lossless quality. These codecs also heavily compress the video stream. This camera will receive firmware updates and support for high frame-rate output, as well as direct recording to an external solid-state drive. Ultimately, it’s likely to be the best camera for 2022, so be sure to buy one now!
The Panasonic GH6 has a number of video-related improvements over its predecessor, which were a major selling point for the GH5. The GH5 was one of the first mirrorless Four Thirds systems to specialize in video recording, and although it didn’t come cheap, it still holds up. The new GH6 camera has a more advanced sensor and will be capable of capturing images of DCI 4K resolution (4096 x 2160 pixels). Another important feature is the ability to capture 120 frames per second. The GH6 also supports 10-bit color, which means there’s more than one billion colors available.
Olympus OM System
There’s more to the Olympus OM System camera for 2020 than meets the eye. The company is planning to unveil a new hybrid camera at the CP+ 2022 photography show. While details of the camera are still unknown, the company is hosting a special talk entitled “The New Dawn of the OM System – What you need to know now.”
In addition to a new sensor, the OM-1 adds a vari-angle LCD with three inches of resolution. The LCD rotates and pulls away from the camera to achieve articulation. The resolution is excellent at 1.62 million dots and the backlight is bright. In addition, the camera supports focus bracketing. Hopefully, these new features will increase the overall quality of the Olympus OM System camera for 2022.
In the meantime, the company is demonstrating the latest technology from Sony. The OMDS showcases the quad-pixel AF stacked sensor, which enables shooting at 120 fps in raw format and 50 fps without blackout. The company also has improved image stabilization to eight stops, improved menus, and forged ahead in computational photography. As for the Olympus OMDS, expect a camera similar to the OM-1 in 2022.
Nikon DX
The Nikon DX series of cameras uses APS-C sensors. The Nikon DX 2022 is the next step up from the DX200. It has an APS-C sensor and is available in many color options. However, its price is quite expensive. The camera weighs around 800 grams. It is not waterproof. But the Nikon Z6 II and the Z7 II have water-resistance ratings of 2,000 meters and 4,000 feet, respectively.
The DX 2022 comes with a 24-70mm f/2.8 VR II lens, which features a vignetting effect and some distortion when the aperture is wide open. These issues can be corrected in post-processing. The AF-DC lens is incredibly lightweight and compact, and is one of the cheapest cameras on the market. However, if you want the best quality and performance from your lens, you will have to pay more for it.
The Nikon DX 2022 has excellent image quality and dynamic range. It is suited to both amateur and professional photographers. The APS-C sensor is good for shooting in bright and dimly-lit conditions, while the full frame sensor offers better low-light performance. It has two CF-Express Type B card slots, which are twice as fast as Type A. Dual-card backup ensures the camera is reliable. And, as a Nikon DX user, you can take full advantage of this feature by shooting in low-light conditions.
Pentax/Ricoh GR series
Probably the Pentax/Ricoh GR series will get a new model in 2022, and it’s likely that the iPhone will come out ahead of it. Whether or not the iPhone beats the Ricoh GR II will depend on the camera’s features. The Ricoh GR II features an F1.9 fixed lens, a 3.0-inch sensor, 920k dots, and a pixel output interpolation algorithm. It also offers multi-pattern shooting and a dynamic range expansion algorithm, making it an excellent choice for many types of photos.
It’s hard to tell exactly what we’ll see in the 2022 GR series cameras. Obviously, we’ll have to wait and see, but we can probably expect to see improved weather sealing and battery life. A monochrome GR IV would be well received as well, but we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, we can probably look forward to an updated Pentax/Ricoh GR series in a few years.
The Ricoh GR IIIx features three new focus modes, including “Auto Area AF (Center)” with nine focus zones around the image sensor. In addition to a AF mode, the camera includes an “Enable AF mode shutter-release,” which will allow photographers to lock the AF system without locking the AE system. Finally, a new AF mode called Snapshot Mode will allow photographers to lock their focus mode at a distance of 11.5 feet and is accessible with a long-press of the monitor. Hopefully, this new firmware will be released by the end of next month.
