LG has announced the availability of its first 42-inch small-screen OLED TV, which is set to debut at the CEDIA Expo in 2022. The TV is said to feature a transparent display panel and a fifth-generation A9 processor. It will be available in the U.S. at that time, and will cost $3,500.
LG’s first 42-inch small-screen OLED TV
The C2 series of OLED televisions from LG is the company’s first model for small screens. They will ship with a new generation of the Alpha 9 processor, improved Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro, and the latest AI video processing technologies. The new models will also ship with the latest version of LG’s webOS 22 operating system. This version of webOS also adds support for individual profiles, so users can customize the menu and settings to meet their needs.
The LG 42C2 series will feature a 4K 120Hz display, 8GB of flash memory, and 2.5GB of RAM. The screen will be able to bend as much as 20 levels. The new model is expected to ship in January of 2022.
The OLED technology behind this TV is also optimized for 120Hz 4K gaming. In an attempt to improve gaming experience, LG has built-in Dolby Atmos support. This technology adds depth and clarity to the sound. In addition, the TV is Dolby Vision-ready, and it supports the latest HDMI 2.1 features, including variable refresh rate and auto low-latency mode. The display is AMD FreeSync Premium certified and supports a variety of game consoles, including PS4 and Xbox One.
It will feature a transparent display panel
LG has recently submitted a proposal to create a transparent OLED television. This device is likely to feature a transparent display panel, reinforced glass, and a glass-covered backlight. This display technology is not new, with Samsung and Panasonic already offering transparent screens. But LG hasn’t yet announced a date for its OLED TV.
A transparent OLED display panel will require more power than the current standard. This means higher temperatures, which causes blue pixels to appear. However, LG’s Brightness Booster technology may solve this issue. It also enables the television to be more efficient. In CES 2019, the company will unveil their OLED EX panels, which offer up to 30% more brightness than previous models.
LG has also unveiled the line of 2022 televisions. Its OLED Evo series features a 65-inch transparent display panel and will be known by different suffixes in Europe and North America.
It will feature a fifth-generation A9 processor
The new fifth-generation A9 processor is set to improve on the current processor for LG’s top-end televisions. The new processor allows for better 4K upscaling, improved tone mapping, and more realistic depth. It will also be able to up-res lower-resolution content.
The next generation of LG processors will make their debut on televisions in April or May. The top-end models will feature the new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor, while the lower-priced models will continue to incorporate the Alpha 7 and Alpha 5 iterations. The new processor will also power the AI Picture and Sound Pro, which will now be powered by the fifth-generation A9 chip.
The next generation of OLED panels is also on the way. LG will roll out higher-performing Evo OLED panels on C2-series TVs. This new technology uses a new pixel structure for increased brightness. It was previously only available on the more expensive G-series models. This technology is also expected to improve HDR performance. Last year’s models received the highest marks for HDR, but the new ones should be even better.
It will be available in the U.S. at CEDIA Expo 2022
